Description

Delicious baked BBQ chicken drumsticks seasoned with a flavorful blend of spices and brushed with sugar-free BBQ sauce, perfect for a healthy and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 4 pounds Chicken drumsticks, about 12

Seasoning

  • 2 tablespoons Garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons Onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons Chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons Smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper

Sauce

  • 2 cups Sugar-free BBQ sauce or low sugar BBQ sauce

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken: In a mixing bowl, add chicken drumsticks, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, smoked paprika, ground ginger, salt, and pepper. Using clean hands, generously rub the seasoning all over each drumstick to coat evenly.
  2. Marinate: Refrigerate the seasoned drumsticks for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat thoroughly.
  3. Preheat the oven: Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a roasting tin with aluminum foil for easy cleanup, if desired.
  4. Arrange the drumsticks: Transfer the chicken drumsticks to the prepared roasting tin, arranging them on a wire rack spaced slightly apart to ensure even cooking.
  5. Bake the chicken: Place the tin in the middle of the oven and bake the drumsticks for 50 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time to cook evenly on all sides.
  6. Apply BBQ sauce and continue baking: Remove the chicken from the oven and brush each drumstick generously with the sugar-free BBQ sauce. Return the chicken to the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Flip the drumsticks, brush again with BBQ sauce, and bake for another 15 minutes to caramelize the sauce and enhance flavor.
  7. Serve: Remove the drumsticks from the oven and serve immediately while hot and flavorful. Enjoy your baked BBQ chicken drumsticks!

Notes

  • The serving size is 2 drumsticks per person.
  • Ovens vary; some may require an additional 15-20 minutes of cooking time. You can also increase the oven temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit for a shorter cook time.
  • Substitutes: chicken breasts or thighs can be used instead of drumsticks.
  • Use your favorite healthy or homemade sugar-free BBQ sauce for best results.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Reheat in the microwave before serving. Drumsticks can also be frozen in a ziplock bag for up to 3 months.
