Description

A festive and sweet treat combining crunchy air-popped popcorn with smooth white chocolate and crushed candy canes for a delightful holiday snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Popcorn

  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels

Coating

  • 1 1/2 cups white chocolate wafers
  • 1/3 cup candy canes - crushed (about 4 regular sized candy canes)

Instructions

  1. Pop the popcorn: Use an air popper to pop 1/2 cup of popcorn kernels until fully popped and fluffy.
  2. Crush the candy canes: Place several candy canes in a food processor or blender and pulse until finely crushed.
  3. Melt the white chocolate: Place the white chocolate wafers in a microwave safe bowl and heat at half power in 30 second intervals, stirring well after each, until fully melted and smooth.
  4. Coat the popcorn: Pour the melted white chocolate over the popped popcorn and gently stir to coat all pieces evenly.
  5. Add crushed candy canes: Sprinkle the crushed candy canes over the coated popcorn and gently mix to distribute the pieces throughout.
  6. Set and store: Let the popcorn mixture sit for 1 hour to allow the white chocolate to set. Store in an airtight container for up to 5-7 days.

Notes

  • You can substitute white chocolate chips for wafers, but the color will be less bright white.
  • This recipe is a family favorite passed down from the author's mother-in-law.
  • Use an air popper to keep the popcorn light and healthy without added oil.
  • Be careful not to overheat the white chocolate to avoid burning or seizing.
  • Use regular sized candy canes for the best candy to popcorn ratio.
