Description

Experience the indulgent and rich flavors of the Dirty Snowman, an adult hot chocolate recipe combining chocolate syrup, vanilla ice cream, creamy liqueurs, and hot chocolate to create a cozy and sophisticated beverage perfect for chilly evenings.

Ingredients

Scale

Rim Coating

  • 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate sprinkles

Drink

  • ½ cup vanilla ice cream (1 scoop)
  • ¼ cup Kahlua
  • 1 tablespoon dark creme de cacao liqueur
  • 1 cup hot chocolate
  • Whipped cream, mini chocolate chips, coarse sanding sugar, and/or additional chocolate syrup and chocolate sprinkles for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prep the rim: Place chocolate syrup on a small plate. Turn the glass or mug upside down and dip the rim into the chocolate syrup to coat it evenly.
  2. Add sprinkles: Immediately dip the syrup-coated rim into a shallow tray of chocolate sprinkles until the rim is thoroughly coated with sprinkles.
  3. Add ice cream: Place one scoop (½ cup) of vanilla ice cream into the prepared glass or mug.
  4. Add liqueurs: Pour ¼ cup Kahlua and 1 tablespoon dark creme de cacao liqueur over the ice cream in the glass.
  5. Pour hot chocolate: Carefully pour 1 cup of hot chocolate over the ice cream and liqueur mixture, allowing it to melt slightly.
  6. Top and garnish: Finish by topping with whipped cream and garnish with mini chocolate chips, coarse sanding sugar, additional chocolate syrup, and chocolate sprinkles as desired.

Notes

  • Prepare the drink just before serving to maintain the texture and temperature contrast.
  • You may double or triple the hot chocolate and liquor quantities and combine them in advance, but pour over individual glasses with ice cream scoop just before serving.
  • Experiment with your favorite liquors such as rum, coconut rum, Bailey’s, or chocolate vodka for variations on this recipe.
  • Substitute chocolate ice cream or a combination of ice cream flavors to customize the drink.
  • This is a rich and creamy drink with a balanced liquor taste; you may increase the alcohol quantity if preferred since the hot chocolate and ice cream support a stronger flavor.
  • Use a high-quality hot chocolate; the Hershey’s cocoa powder recipe is recommended for best results.
