Ingredients
Scale
Rim Coating
- 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup
- 1 tablespoon chocolate sprinkles
Drink
- ½ cup vanilla ice cream (1 scoop)
- ¼ cup Kahlua
- 1 tablespoon dark creme de cacao liqueur
- 1 cup hot chocolate
- Whipped cream, mini chocolate chips, coarse sanding sugar, and/or additional chocolate syrup and chocolate sprinkles for garnish
Instructions
- Prep the rim: Place chocolate syrup on a small plate. Turn the glass or mug upside down and dip the rim into the chocolate syrup to coat it evenly.
- Add sprinkles: Immediately dip the syrup-coated rim into a shallow tray of chocolate sprinkles until the rim is thoroughly coated with sprinkles.
- Add ice cream: Place one scoop (½ cup) of vanilla ice cream into the prepared glass or mug.
- Add liqueurs: Pour ¼ cup Kahlua and 1 tablespoon dark creme de cacao liqueur over the ice cream in the glass.
- Pour hot chocolate: Carefully pour 1 cup of hot chocolate over the ice cream and liqueur mixture, allowing it to melt slightly.
- Top and garnish: Finish by topping with whipped cream and garnish with mini chocolate chips, coarse sanding sugar, additional chocolate syrup, and chocolate sprinkles as desired.
Notes
- Prepare the drink just before serving to maintain the texture and temperature contrast.
- You may double or triple the hot chocolate and liquor quantities and combine them in advance, but pour over individual glasses with ice cream scoop just before serving.
- Experiment with your favorite liquors such as rum, coconut rum, Bailey’s, or chocolate vodka for variations on this recipe.
- Substitute chocolate ice cream or a combination of ice cream flavors to customize the drink.
- This is a rich and creamy drink with a balanced liquor taste; you may increase the alcohol quantity if preferred since the hot chocolate and ice cream support a stronger flavor.
- Use a high-quality hot chocolate; the Hershey’s cocoa powder recipe is recommended for best results.
