Description

A refreshing Frozen Passion Fruit Mezcalita combining tropical passion fruit purée with smoky mezcal and citrusy orange juice, lightly sweetened with agave nectar for a perfectly balanced, smooth cocktail.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 (12 oz.) bag frozen passion fruit purée (seedless)
  • 1/4 cup mezcal (vegan-friendly, e.g., Madre or Del Maguey)
  • 2 Tbsp agave nectar
  • 1 medium blood or navel orange, juiced (~1/4-1/3 cup or 60-80 ml)
  • Sea salt (optional, for rim of glass)

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Add the frozen passion fruit purée, mezcal, agave nectar, and freshly squeezed orange juice into a blender. Blend until the mixture is creamy and smooth.
  2. Adjust Flavor: Taste the cocktail and adjust the sweetness or alcohol strength by adding more agave nectar or mezcal as preferred. Blend again briefly if adjusted.
  3. Prepare Glasses: If desired, rim the serving glasses with sea salt. To do this, pour about 1 tablespoon of sea salt onto a small plate. Run the leftover orange halves or a lime wedge around the rims of the glasses, then immediately dip the rims into the salt to coat.
  4. Serve: Divide the blended mezcalita between the prepared glasses and enjoy immediately for the best slushy texture.
  5. Storage: Leftovers can be refrigerated for 1-2 days but will lose the slushy texture. Alternatively, freeze leftover mezcalita into ice cubes to reblend later for fresh texture.

Notes

  • Agave nectar is preferred for its neutral flavor, but honey can be used as an alternative sweetener.
  • This recipe is inspired by a drink served at Manta in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
  • Nutrition information is an estimate and does not include optional salt rims.
  • Use a vegan-friendly mezcal to keep the cocktail vegan.
  • The passion fruit purée bag size yields approximately 1 ¾ cups when thawed, ensuring enough volume for two servings.
