Description

Grinch Christmas Crack is a festive, sweet and salty treat featuring a crispy saltine cracker base topped with a rich toffee layer, melted green candy coating, and colorful sprinkles. Perfect for holiday celebrations and gifting, this easy no-bake dessert brings fun and flavor to any Christmas table.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 35-40 saltine crackers

Toffee Layer

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar

Topping

  • 2 cups light green candy melts (about 1 1/2-ounce bag)
  • Red heart sprinkles
  • Green sprinkles of choice

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a 10 x 15-inch baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray it with nonstick cooking spray for easy cleanup.
  2. Arrange Crackers: Lay out 35-40 saltine crackers in even rows, filling the bottom of the prepared pan completely. Set aside while preparing the toffee.
  3. Make Toffee: In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, melt 1 cup unsalted butter with 1 cup packed brown sugar. Stir constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a boil. Continue boiling for 2-3 minutes until it reaches 270-290 degrees Fahrenheit, ensuring the toffee is perfectly cooked.
  4. Apply Toffee: Pour the hot toffee mixture evenly over the arranged saltine crackers. Use a heat-safe spatula to spread the toffee across the crackers without breaking them. Transfer the pan to the oven and bake for 5 minutes to set the toffee.
  5. Add Candy Coating: Remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle 2 cups of light green candy melts evenly over the hot toffee. Let the pan sit for 2-3 minutes so the candy melts can soften and melt completely.
  6. Spread and Decorate: Use a spatula to spread the melted green candy smoothly over the toffee layer. Quickly sprinkle red heart sprinkles and green sprinkles of your choice on top before the candy hardens.
  7. Cool and Serve: Allow the Christmas crack to cool completely at room temperature until the candy coating hardens. Once set, break into pieces and serve or package for gifting.

Notes

  • Store at room temperature in an airtight container or zip-top bag for up to 7 days to keep it crisp.
  • For longer storage, refrigerate in an airtight container where it will keep fresh up to 2 weeks.
  • To store even longer, freeze the treat up to 3 months in a freezer bag or airtight container with parchment paper layered between pieces to prevent sticking.
  • Be careful when spreading the toffee to avoid cracking the saltines.
  • Use a candy thermometer for accurate toffee cooking to achieve the perfect hard crack stage.
