Description

These Ham and Cheese Pinwheels are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer featuring flaky crescent roll dough filled with savory ham, Swiss cheese, and tangy Dijon mustard. Topped with a buttery garlic glaze and poppy seeds, they bake to golden perfection and are perfect for parties or snacks.

Ingredients

Scale

Pinwheels

  • 1 8-oz. tube crescent roll dough
  • 1/2 lb. deli sliced ham
  • 2 tbsp. Dijon mustard
  • 8 oz. sliced Swiss cheese

Topping

  • 4 tbsp. butter, melted
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. poppy seeds
  • chopped parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease an 8-x-8-inch baking pan with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare dough and fillings: On a lightly floured surface, unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into rectangles by pinching the perforations to seal them. Spread about 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard evenly onto each rectangle. Layer the deli ham evenly over the mustard. Then, add slices of Swiss cheese over the ham.
  3. Roll and slice: Starting from one short side of each rectangle, carefully roll up the dough tightly and pinch the edges to seal. Using a sharp knife, cut each roll into 5 to 6 slices to form pinwheels. Arrange these cut sides up in the prepared baking pan.
  4. Brush and top: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter and garlic powder. Brush this mixture generously over the tops of the pinwheels. Then sprinkle poppy seeds evenly on top.
  5. Bake until golden: Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake the pinwheels for 15 minutes until they are cooked through and golden brown on top.
  6. Garnish and serve: Remove from oven and optionally sprinkle chopped parsley for a fresh pop of color. Serve warm and enjoy your delicious ham and cheese pinwheels!

Notes

  • To reheat leftovers, warm the pinwheels in the microwave or bake in a 375 degrees Fahrenheit oven for about 10 minutes.
  • You can substitute Swiss cheese with provolone or cheddar for a different flavor profile.
  • For a lower-fat version, use reduced-fat cheese and less butter or a butter substitute.
  • Adding finely chopped fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary into the butter mixture can enhance the flavor.
  • These pinwheels work great as party appetizers or as a quick snack.
