Ingredients
Scale
Pinwheels
- 1 8-oz. tube crescent roll dough
- 1/2 lb. deli sliced ham
- 2 tbsp. Dijon mustard
- 8 oz. sliced Swiss cheese
Topping
- 4 tbsp. butter, melted
- 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
- 1 tsp. poppy seeds
- chopped parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease an 8-x-8-inch baking pan with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Prepare dough and fillings: On a lightly floured surface, unroll the crescent roll dough and separate it into rectangles by pinching the perforations to seal them. Spread about 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard evenly onto each rectangle. Layer the deli ham evenly over the mustard. Then, add slices of Swiss cheese over the ham.
- Roll and slice: Starting from one short side of each rectangle, carefully roll up the dough tightly and pinch the edges to seal. Using a sharp knife, cut each roll into 5 to 6 slices to form pinwheels. Arrange these cut sides up in the prepared baking pan.
- Brush and top: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter and garlic powder. Brush this mixture generously over the tops of the pinwheels. Then sprinkle poppy seeds evenly on top.
- Bake until golden: Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake the pinwheels for 15 minutes until they are cooked through and golden brown on top.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from oven and optionally sprinkle chopped parsley for a fresh pop of color. Serve warm and enjoy your delicious ham and cheese pinwheels!
Notes
- To reheat leftovers, warm the pinwheels in the microwave or bake in a 375 degrees Fahrenheit oven for about 10 minutes.
- You can substitute Swiss cheese with provolone or cheddar for a different flavor profile.
- For a lower-fat version, use reduced-fat cheese and less butter or a butter substitute.
- Adding finely chopped fresh herbs like thyme or rosemary into the butter mixture can enhance the flavor.
- These pinwheels work great as party appetizers or as a quick snack.
