Description

This Honey Garlic Butter Chicken recipe features tender, golden-brown chicken breasts seared to perfection and coated in a luscious honey garlic butter sauce. Quick and easy to prepare, this dish balances sweet, savory, and tangy flavors, making it a perfect weeknight dinner that pairs well with rice or vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (5-8 oz. each)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 4 tablespoons butter, divided

Sauce

  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth (optional)

Garnish (optional)

  • Fresh parsley or green onions, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar until fully combined to create the sauce.
  2. Pound the chicken. Using a meat mallet, gently pound the chicken breasts to an even thickness of 1/2 inch to ensure even cooking.
  3. Season and dredge the chicken. Season both sides of the chicken breasts with salt and pepper. Dredge them in flour, shaking off any excess to avoid clumping.
  4. Sear the chicken. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and melt 3 tablespoons of butter. Place the chicken in the skillet and sear for 4-5 minutes on one side until golden brown.
  5. Flip the chicken. Turn the chicken breasts over and sear the other side for 1-2 minutes until lightly browned.
  6. Add garlic and melt butter. Reduce heat to medium, add the remaining 1 tablespoon butter to the skillet, and sauté the minced garlic for about 30 seconds until fragrant, taking care not to burn it.
  7. Add the sauce and simmer. Pour the prepared sauce into the skillet. Let it simmer gently until it thickens slightly and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165ºF, ensuring it's fully cooked.
  8. Make it saucy (optional). For a saucier consistency, stir in 1/4 cup chicken broth and let it cook for an additional minute to combine flavors.
  9. Coat and garnish. Turn the chicken in the sauce to coat evenly, then remove from heat. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley or green onions if desired.
  10. Serve and enjoy. Plate the honey garlic butter chicken with your favorite sides and enjoy immediately for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use smaller chicken breasts (5-8 oz.) or cut larger breasts in half lengthwise to create even cutlets.
  • Add 1/4 cup chicken broth to the sauce to increase its sauciness and create more liquid for serving.
  • For a spicy twist, sprinkle several dashes of red pepper flakes into the sauce while simmering.
  • Add a splash of lime or lemon juice at the end to brighten the overall flavor with some citrus zest.
  • This recipe pairs well with steamed rice, roasted vegetables, or a fresh salad.
