Description

Maple Glazed Carrots are a sweet and savory side dish featuring tender carrots cooked with butter, brown sugar, and maple syrup, finished with fresh thyme and a touch of seasoning. Perfect for enhancing any meal with a glossy, flavorful glaze.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb carrots cut into 2” x 1 ½” sticks
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 ½ tablespoons salted butter
  • 2 tablespoons light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 2 sprigs fresh thyme (optional)
  • ¼ teaspoon salt plus additional to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper plus additional to taste

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: Place the carrots, water, salted butter, light brown sugar, maple syrup, fresh thyme sprigs, salt, and black pepper in a 10” skillet over medium heat. Stir frequently until the butter has completely melted and the ingredients are well mixed.
  2. Bring to Boil: Increase the heat to medium-high and stir often as the mixture comes to a boil.
  3. Simmer Carrots: Reduce the heat to a simmer and cover the skillet. Cook for 10 minutes or until the carrots are just tender when pierced with a fork.
  4. Glaze the Carrots: Remove the lid, increase the heat to medium-high, and stir frequently to evaporate the remaining water. Continue cooking until the liquid has reduced to a glossy glaze coating the carrots.
  5. Adjust Seasoning: Taste the glazed carrots and add more salt and freshly cracked black pepper if needed before serving.

Notes

  • Baby carrots can be used as an easy substitute requiring no peeling or chopping.
  • Peeling the carrots is optional but will produce a brighter orange color and glossier finish.
  • You can substitute honey for maple syrup if preferred.
