Ingredients
Scale
Cream Cheese Glaze
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened
- ½ cup cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- ½ cup whole milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Red Velvet Waffles
- 2 cups Bisquick mix
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup whole milk
- 30 drops red gel food coloring
- 1 egg
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Prepare Cream Cheese Glaze: Beat the softened butter and cream cheese together until soft and smooth. Add the powdered sugar and continue beating until the mixture becomes light and fluffy, scraping down the sides of the bowl to remove any lumps.
- Mix Glaze Ingredients: Mix in the whole milk and vanilla extract to the cream cheese mixture until well combined. Set the glaze aside while you prepare the waffles.
- Preheat Waffle Iron: Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer's instructions to ensure even cooking.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the Bisquick mix, brown sugar, and unsweetened cocoa powder.
- Mix Wet Ingredients with Dry: Add the buttermilk, whole milk, red gel food coloring, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Whisk the batter until it is smooth and evenly colored.
- Cook Waffles: Pour about ¾ cup of the red velvet batter into the preheated waffle iron. Close the iron and cook for 5 minutes or until the waffles are lightly browned, crispy on the outside, and soft inside. Waffles should easily release from the iron when done.
- Serve with Glaze: Drizzle the cream cheese glaze over the warm waffles immediately and enjoy. Repeat cooking the remaining batter in the same manner.
Notes
- Add a little more milk to the cream cheese glaze to make it thinner, or reduce the milk to ¼ cup for a thicker frosting consistency.
- If you don’t have buttermilk, mix 1 tablespoon of white vinegar with 1 cup of regular milk and let it sit to curdle for a homemade substitute.
- Omit the brown sugar in the waffle mix if you prefer less sweetness, as the cream cheese glaze adds sufficient sweetness on its own.
