Description

Delicious homemade Toffee Bars featuring a buttery shortbread crust topped with a sweet and creamy toffee, chocolate, and pecan mixture. These bars bake to a golden perfection and make a perfect indulgent treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1 cup butter - softened

Filling

  • 14 oz sweetened condensed milk - one 14 ounce can
  • 1 large egg
  • 1.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • 8 oz English Toffee Bits
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease a 13x9-inch baking dish with cooking spray or line with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Make the crust: In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and confectioners' sugar. Cut in the softened butter using your hands or a food processor until the mixture resembles a coarse meal. Firmly press this mixture into the bottom of your prepared baking dish.
  3. Bake the crust: Bake the crust at 350 degrees F for approximately 15 minutes or until the top is nicely golden. Remove from oven and set aside.
  4. Prepare the filling: Meanwhile, in a large bowl, beat together the sweetened condensed milk, egg, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until smooth.
  5. Add mix-ins: Gently fold in the English toffee bits, chocolate chips, and chopped pecans into the condensed milk mixture. Spread this evenly over the pre-baked crust.
  6. Bake the bars: Return the baking dish to the oven and bake for 25 minutes or until lightly browned on top.
  7. Cool and chill: Allow the bars to cool completely, then chill in the refrigerator before cutting into 48 servings.
  8. Storage: Store any leftovers in the refrigerator or freeze for longer storage.

Notes

  • Use parchment paper for easy removal and cleanup.
  • For a nut-free version, omit the pecans or substitute with seeds.
  • Ensure the butter is softened to cut easily into the flour mixture.
  • Chilling bars before cutting helps achieve clean slices.
  • Store bars in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
